A new £37m cancer centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which will provide care for young children suffering with cancer and rare diseases, is the largest single investment ever made to the hospital site.
The cancer centre will combine a central oncology hub for inpatients and outpatients for the first time and will feature three new operating theatres, a communal area, family chill-out room, play area, cafe and 18 private patient rooms with en suites.
880 square metres of BioClad in total will be installed in patient en suites. The en suites will boast a superior hygienic environment thanks to BioClad’s antimicrobial wall cladding featuring our unique BioCote silver-ion technology which works 24/7 to kill bacteria by 99.9% and is proven effective against E.Coli, MRSA and Influenza.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital plans to open doors to the new centre in late 2017 and says their world-class care for children and young people will now be given from world-class facilities.
BioClad worked closely with construction group Interserve on the project at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and were able to provide a project-specific independent fire test to adhere to Birmingham NHS Trust’s fire regulations.
The project is working in the Procure 21+ NHS framework designed by hospital clinicians and architects to provide all NHS construction schemes with supply chain partnerships without a lengthly tender process.
