ISO standard tests were undertaken to demonstrate hygienic wall cladding’s superior impact resistance compared to ceramic tiles. Our summary illustrates methodology and outcome.
Surface damage is likely to result in penetration of materials and micro-organisms which can cause unsightly staining and act as a breeding ground for contamination. This is often very difficult or practically impossible to eliminate and will severely compromise hygiene.
An ISO standard test was conducted using a 322g steel ball (BS EN 438), this was dropped from various heights on to the flat surface, joint, edge and corner. As you can see, the visible damage sustained to the tile from 25 millimetres as opposed to the PVC which required a minimum drop of 3,500 millimetres to create any visual damage to the sheet.
